International Sustainable Tourism Initiative

We train current and future leaders to rigorously evaluate and enhance the way our surroundings affect our health. As the travel and tourism industry reaches nearly ten percent of the global economy, the time is now to explore how each of its vibrant sectors—including cruise lines, hotels, tour operators, and aviation—represents an opportunity to manage the industry’s transformative footprint on the planet.

Working closely with local authorities and corporate leaders in tourism destinations around the world, this program strives to equip decision makers with the interactive, evidence-based management approach needed to protect and improve the environments that determine health.

Through ISTI, we are laying a new foundation for local champions to guide future tourism development by building consensus around which science-based data are required, creating frameworks for managing impacts, and developing open source tools that can revolutionize how we gather data both locally and globally.
